Skymall Magazine Index (Holiday 2010) is a zine that contains an index for the Holiday 2010 edition of SkyMall Magazine, an in-flight shopping magazine formerly offered on a number of American airlines. SkyMall focused on whimsical and novelty products. Presented seemingly without any order or over-arching organization, the magazine seemed to be laid out so that each new page would surprise and draw in the bored airline passenger with some life hack product to fulfill an as-yet unknown life problem or desire.
Print copies of SkyMall did not have an index. I contracted with a professional indexing service to create this one. While nominally functional as an add-on to the original magazine, the index zine on it's own reads like a strange categorization of the entire human experience, calmly and earnestly cataloging the obsessions, concerns, struggles, trends, and fantasies of 21st century Americans living under capitalism in a unemotional, unsensational list. One reader remarked that "if aliens came to earth and all they found was this zine, they could understand our entire civilization."
